Healing Prayer Focalizer

In a recent study, prayer was found to be the most common Complementary/Alternative medicine (CAM) therapy. - Is Prayer CAM?

That's why I thought it would be good to make a “Healing Prayer Focalizer” (HPF).   

It  is meant to provide comfort, relief, and maybe even, healing.

The HPF was made from common everyday parts and is controlled by an Arduino microcontroller.

My working model is not for sale, but within this folder, you will find information on how to make, use, and improve your own “Healing Prayer Focalizer”.  
In addition, you find information on how to better understand how healing in general might work, especially Complementary/Alternative Healing modalities.

In designing The Virtual Healing Machine, I wanted a simple concept that would appeal to all ages.

“Imagine if you will, The Virtual Healing Machine.  It might look something like a small television or video game…..”

The imagery might remind older people of the old time radios.  Plus the image might appeal to the younger people who are very used to televisions, computer monitors, games, etc.

From what I read, it seems like most people want “something or someone” outside of themselves to “fix” them when they are sick.  In The Virtual Healing Machine, the focus is gently moved from “the box” to “The Doctor Within”.

“By the way, Your Doctor Within is you.  You have the power to heal yourself and make yourself happy….”

“Poems in the Waiting Room”

Have you ever heard of “Poems in the Waiting Room”?    

Well, I hadn’t either until I read about it in Mental Floss May-June 2011.

Poetry in the waiting room sounds to me like a combination of placebo effect and hypnosis to achieve a better current situation and encouraging a positive outcome.

Snippets from the link below I found interesting….

…. make the patient's wait more pleasant.

…. The readers are patients - the worried well and the worried sick.

…. The readers are patients - the worried well and the worried sick. The poems selected draw from the springs of well-being. In time of trouble, a measure of comfort is welcome".

…. The essential is that they all contain positive images of hope, home, security, safe journey and arrival, beauty and transcendence, love and loving.

 

Sounds to me that these poems are relaxing the patient and helping them focus on expecting a positive outcome – i.e. hypnosis & placebo - just like The Virtual Healing Machine.

NIH Grant - The Placebo Effect: Mechanisms and Methodology (R01)

Evidently, the U.S. government is interested in enhancing the placebo effect by offering a research grant.  I’m not interested in the grant, but maybe my work might be helpful to others working on this.  See below.  I sincerely hope they study the nocebo effect also, and how to diminish it.

The Virtual Healing Machine consists of a series of free videos available on the internet.  The videos provide a healing ritual to enhance the placebo effect, plus provide healing hypnotic suggestions.  I'm hoping this will help others, especially those who are hopeless and/or where professional healthcare is not possible.

The Anatomy of Hope

In designing The Virtual Healing Machine, I wanted to emphasize hope.  I think hope is a “medicine” in itself.  I also think that hope is the essence of the “placebo effect”.

To learn more about hope, I read and studied a lot.  I wanted to understand hope, much like an engineer reverse-engineers a device. 

The best book I’ve found so far is “The Anatomy of Hope: How People Prevail in the Face of Illness” by Jerome Groopman.  I highly recommend this book for anyone who wants to help others heal from the inside out.

I wanted The Virtual Healing Machine to “exude hope”, hence I designed the  green “hope” lights, the “flicker of hope”, and the moving green dots.
